Faculty Resources and DevelopmentWe will have several programs throughout the year designed to aid faculty in improving their courses. Watch this space for announcements! Book Discussion GroupEach fall we have a discussion group about a book relevant to math and science learning. In 2009 we will focus on 2 topics - clickers (Classroom Response Systems) and online learning. Interested faculty are welcome to attend. Book titles and meeting times to be announced soon! We are scheduling a book group on clickers now. Contact us if you are interested in attending. Once we have a meeting scheduled, it will be posted here. Clicker HelpYou can also contact us if you are adopting clickers for your teaching and need assistance. We are not official trainers, but we are willing to act as resources to help you learn how to adapt clickers to your educational goals, and to try to help you solve problems as you adopt them. Jill Carroll and Kim Shaw have been working with clickers and will do their best to answer your questions. Teaching SquaresWe will be forming "teaching squares" soon. These are groups of (ideally) four faculty who wish to work with other faculty to improve some facet of teaching and learning in their classrooms. Participants meet outside of the classroom and develop concrete plans for change on some aspect of their class. Participants then exchange peer teaching observations that focus solely on that aspect of the classroom experience, and discuss their observations afterward. Teaching squares provide faculty with the opportunity to take active measures within the semester to act on some area they wish to improve in their classrooms, and also provide faculty with a group of supportive colleagues to collaborate with in these efforts, and a way to document improvements. Library for faculty
The MSLC has a small collection of books for faculty in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, aimed at either research in STEM pedagogy, or aimed at ways of improving different facets of teaching. These books are available to CSU faculty on loan. Need help? Contact us!If you have a part of your course that you feel could be improved, contact us. We will help you determine the best way to approach changes to suit your course goals and teaching style.
